Clinical guidelines are primarily intended for specialists in family medicine, and doctors-all practitioners in primary care.

Updating the clinical guidelines is done every three years according to the latest findings of evidence-based medicine, according to the methodology described in the "Guidelines for the development and revision of clinical guidelines." Primary health care, in charge of this activity is the Association of Family Medicine doctors of Republic of Srpska.

Clinical guidelines are prepared by the consulting company "Bonex Engineering" Ltd. Belgrade, under the Health Sector Enhancement Project - Terms of Reference, "Revision and improvement of clinical guidelines for primary care", funded by World Bank loans.

Overall, 11 new clinical guidelines are prepared and 20 clinical guidelines that have been in use since 2005 year are revised.
